What may have been originally fixed pins under the roof, near the top, were replaced long ago with a bolt. Efforts have been made to clean up the multitudes of additional, non-original bolts on the route, but more needs to be done. Links have been added (by unknown) for toproping.
	The route should be down graded to 5.7 A1.

In December I finally fixed one of my pet peaves on the Monolith. I added an appropriately placed belay/ lower-off anchor.

The new anchor consists of 2) 3/8" S.S. Rawl wedge anchors with the Musy Tow Hook set up. I placed it approximately 8' above the lip of the route, clearly past the end of the "real climbing." This eliminates about 30' of rope eating slab contact while lowering off and puts the finishing touch on an excellent climb.

Replaced top protection bolt with 5-piece Rawl Added a second belay bolt (5-piece Rawl) to belay on top The top belay bolts are shared with Japanese Water Torture. Work done by FOP 2/1993. - Replaced the rusty Leeper-style hanger at the top protection bolt with a Fixe S.S. ASCA hanger using the existing Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3" bolt. This bolt is located in a large solid block. Rappelled down and pulled the second protection bolt, a 3/8" x 2" Star Dryvin bolt and old SMC hanger. Instead of the bolt and hanger pulling out, the entire rock surrounding the bolt exploded! (Yikes ? I clipped this bolt while leading this climb about a year ago!) I drilled a new hole in better rock nearby and placed a Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolt and Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger. Rappelled down and pulled the first protection bolt, a 3/8" x 2" Star Dryvin bolt and old SMC hanger. Deepened the existing hole and then placed a Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolt and a Fixe S.S. Japanese Water Torture (5.8 R)

Replaced a rusty steel hanger on the top belay with a Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger using the existing Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3" bolt. This hanger was similar in shape to Leeper hangers, but it was larger and thicker. The other belay bolt and hanger were in good shape. Removed the homemade (stamped with one of the first ascensionist's initials) aluminum hanger from the protection bolt, but when removed the threads stripped. I had to break off the 3/8" threaded stud bolt. This threaded stud-type bolt, which was hollow inside (expansion by driving a cone into the hollow part?), easily broke off inside of the hole. Drilled a new hole nearby and placed a Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolt and a Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger. Located the hole where the first protection bolt had broken off inside of the hole. According to several climbers, this bolt has been missing for many, many years and broke soon after it was installed by the first ascensionists (I do not feel bad about intentionally breaking the second protection bolt). I drilled a new hole and placed a Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolt and Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger. Note: "Baboon Crack" is a rather contrived climb that uses the first and fourth protection bolts of "Me And My Monkey." Pulled out the two top belay bolts and hangers, which were 3/8" x 3-3/4" wedge-type studs and homemade angle iron/smash link hangers. Deepened the holes (the full length of the previous bolts was not inserted), Installed two Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolts and two Fixe S.S. double ring rappel ring hangers. Rappelled down and pulled the top protection bolt, a 3/8" x 3" wedge-type threaded stud and a homemade angle iron hanger. Deepened the existing hole and then placed a Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolt and a Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger. Tried to pull the third and second protection bolts, which were 3/8" x 3" wedge-type threaded studs, since they were loose but ended up breaking both bolts. (I hate these bolts since they are almost impossible to replace without breaking!) The homemade angle iron hangers were removed. Drilled two new holes near the previous holes and placed two Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolts and two Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hangers as the third and second protection bolts. The first protection bolt, also a 3/8" wedge-type threaded stud, was installed in solid rock so it was left intact. Replaced the homemade angle iron hanger (typical of Pinnacles area!) with a Fixe S.S. "ASCA" hanger on the existing bolt. Work done by Mark Fletcher 2/11/2000
